Acquired as Rouen, period of Louis XV; labelled as Rouen c. 1750-60 in 1953. According to a note in the register the subject is adapted from 'Le Denicheur de Moineaux', engraved by Boucher after Watteau's painting in the National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh.
