Vase of hard-paste porcelain painted with enamels and gilded, and with unglazed applied flowers. Cup-shaped, the lower portion gadrooned. Above the gadroons are two floral festoons in applied white biscuit, suspended from knobs in the form of screw-heads. Remaining surface is decorated with two oval medallions, festoons and sprigs in gold on a dark blue ground. Within the medallions are landscapes with ruins.

Production | Acquired as 'Italian (Naples), first half of the 19th century'. Reattributed to Niderviller and dated to the late 18th century by comparison with a similar object, described as a clock 'en forme d'une urne' and attributed to Niderviller, exhibited at the Paris (Musée des arts decoratifs) loan exhibition of 1929, no. 1002. |
