This Christmas cracker label by Batger’s & Co is probably from the late 1940s or early 1950s. The V&A collection includes a series of cracker labels by the firm, established in 1748. This image shows a family watching an early television set, with children scaring their elderly relatives with Christmas crackers. The crackers are branded as ‘Television Crackers’, the cracker company attaching itself to the new phenomenon of televisual entertainment. It is an interesting document, an insight into the social history of the time.
