Costume worn by Cecily Byrne as the Countess von Baltin in By Candle Light, Prince of Wales Theatre, London, 1928.
'Jacket' or 'shrug' of deep purple/blue satin. Constructed from a single piece of fabric and reaching to the waist where it fastens with a simple fabric belt (stitched to the hem). The 'jacket' is open at the front, the loose, wide sleeves curving gentle round beneath the arms and falling in soft folds at the elbows.

This jacket was worn by Cecily Byrne as the Countess von Baltin in Siegfried Geyer's play 'By Candle Light' performed at the Prince of Wales Theatre, London, 18th September 1928. The play was adapted from the German by Harry Green, and the production was directed by Leslie Faber.
