The morion itself is an unexceptional but authentic object; the embossed and damascened decoration, however, has been added in the 19th century to give it a richness in imitation of the elaborately decorated parade armours of the late 16th century.

The decoration on the morion is an exceptionally skilful forgery which was not detected until the 1960's.
