We're painting this station

Poster
1996-1997 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This poster is part of a campaign of bold, vividly coloured information posters commissioned to brighten up dull railway stations. The design company Johnson Banks was partly inspired by the spirit of railway posters of the 1920s and 1930s and this influence can be detected in the use of reduced shapes and flat masses of colour. The poster is designed to be readable at a distance from a train window. It aims to foster goodwill between the rail company and its passengers by informing them that the station is being painted and the travelling environment improved. The series was nominated for BBC and D&AD (British Design and Art Direction) awards.
