Sir Joseph Lyons gave this paint box to Gluck when they were a child. Clearly it was more of a novelty than a practical paint box. It was made and retailed by the firm of J. C. Vickery of Regent Street in London. They were a well-known firm of silversmiths and jewellers in the early 20th century.

The long rectangular paint box contains seven watercolour compartments and one for a miniature brush The box is hinged at one end and hangs from the other by a plain ring.

The paint box was given to Gluck as a child by Sir Joseph Lyon. Paint boxes were made in silver from the late eighteenth century.
