In this portrait in coloured wax William Pitt, the first Earl of Chatham is shown nearly full face wearing a short powdered wig and a gold braided purple coat over a spotted yellow waistcoat and a white scarf tied in a bow around his neck. William Pitt, (the Elder), a celebrated politician and orator whos served as war minister during the Seven Years War is considered as one of the greatest British statesmen of the eighteenth century. The portrait is in an oval frame draped inside with purple velvet.
