Historical context
Edward Palmer was the inventor (in 1842) and patent holder of the Glyphography process. Glyphography, the term derived from the Greek words for 'engrave' and 'to draw', involves the application of electrotype to the art of engraving, creating a method of wax engraving.

Palmer produced a book detailing the method he had invented:
Palmer, Edward. Glyphography; or, Engraved drawing, for printing at the type press after the manner of woodcuts. 2d ed. London: privately printed.
