Teapot, part of a tea and coffee service, designed by Walter Stoye and manufactured by Barkentin & Krall. Silver and ivory. 1923.

Silver, ivory handle and finial. Body in the form of an ovoid, with a frieze of depressions and oval punches. Stepped below the neck, which is decorated with lozenge and running ovals. Stepped circular foot. Straight spout, decorated as the kettle. Domed and stepped hinged cover, stepped ivory finial. Faceted silver handle with an ivory centre.

From a tea service. Designed by Walter Stoye (1886-1974) for his wife. Stoye was a keen draughtsman who won a scholarship to the Central School of Arts and Crafts where he subsequently became a teacher in metal and enamel work. He also taught at the Brighton School of Art and the Camberwell School of Art. He is said to have joined the firm of Barkentin & Krall as a designer some time between 1912 and 1914. In 1915, he married Carl Krall's daughter Annie and succeeded his father-in-law as Managing Director after the First World War until it closed in 1935.
