Chunghi Choo (b. 1938 in South Korea) is a renowned metalsmith and jewellery artist who is best known for her works that incorporate techniques such as electroforming and electro-appliqué. Choo’s artwork is represented in major museums around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Musée des arts décoratifs. She is Professor Emeritus of the University of Iowa, where she established a metals programme, which she brought to international prominence during her more than thirty years of service. Many of her students have since become critically acclaimed artists in the fields of fine arts, jewellery, textiles, metalsmithing and sculpture.

| Object history | Given by Jack Lenor Larsen Quote: "Most of my pieces have a rounded bottom surface - floating form - which makes the piece visually light and self contained." One of a limited edition made following the purchase of the original decanter by the Museum of Modern Art, New York, in 1980. Chungi Choo was born in Inchon, Korea and studied at the Ewha Women's University, Seoul (1961) before joining the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Michigan where she studied Metalsmithing along with minors in Ceramics and Weaving. Since 1968, she has taught at the University of Iowa where she is currently Professor of Jewellery and Metalsmithing. |
