Materials and techniques | Silver gilt. Russia, Moscow town mark. maker's mark of Sazikov. Assay master's initials of V Sakinkov (1855-88) and date 1865. A Bratina is a loving cup which evolved in Russia in the 16th and 17th centuries. It was used for welcoming guests and is often inscribed with a motto around the rim. With the interest of historicism in the second half of the 19th century this form was revived and made in large numbers. Savinkov was a leading Moscow silversmith, holding the Imperial warrant from 1846. |
