Nelson Dawson was a silversmith, painter and metalworker who was at the heart of the English Arts and Crafts movement. After spending some time in an architects office, he studied painting at the South Kensington Schools (1885-7) and took up metalwork in 1891, studying under Alexander Fisher, the pre-eminent enameller of his day.
