The origins of Wakely & Wheeler date back to 1791. The firm enjoyed a reputation for employing fine craft workers. They included W. S. King and F. S. Beck, who taught at the Hornsey School of Art and the Central School of Arts and Crafts. A. E. Pittman, who was Arthur Wakely's partner in the 1930s, supplied many of the designs, along with Kenneth Mosley. For many years Mosley supplied the designs when the firm's workshop and showroom was in Red Lion Square in London. It is probably Mosley who designed this christening mug.
