Object history | Acquisition RF: Waldo Sibthorp Bequest - Col. Waldo Sibthorp This mace or tipstaff was a symbol of authority used by lower ranking, mostly voluntary officials, responsible to the local Justice of the Peace who appointed them. Their duties included local administration and keeping the peace. This mace is rather grand and was probably used by a London constable. |
