Tie

1950-1954 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Neckwear became more colourful and more daring in the 1950s. Parisian designs included some lively prints inspired by famous works of art, well-known landmarks and abstracted or geometric designs. Ties from Italy were predominantly black and gold, complimenting the fashionable black and gold shantung suits popular there. This print, like the aurora borealis, or Northern Lights, is an example of fashion designer Christian Dior's restrained elegance.
