Place of origin

This is a lead medal made by Hans Daucher in about 1526. The medal has only an obverse only which shows the bust of Ludwig II, King of Hungary. The clumsy inscription on this medal was engraved direct onto the medal, rather than the mould, clearly after the death of Ludwig II.
Hans Daucher (ca. 1485-ca. 1538) was a sculptor and son of Adolf Daucher, and the nephew and pupil of Gregor Erhart. He worked in Aughsburg, Vienna, and for the Court of Württemberg, portraying, in particular, Emperor Maximilian I, and Otto Heinrich and his brother Philip, Counts of the Rhineland Palatinate. He was the finest sculptor in Augsburg during the 1520s.
