Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This poster by Steve Bell is one of a set of eight, commissioned by the Stop the War Coalition in 2003, in protest against Britain’s involvement in the US-led war in Iraq. Seven of Britain’s leading artists were commissioned to produce posters. The posters were signed and published in a limited edition of 100.
Steve Bell is a political cartoonist for the Guardian newspaper, and in this image he satirises the relationship between the British prime minister Tony Blair and George W. Bush, the president of the United States. The one-eyed leaders are shown having a telephone conversation, complaining that the general public do not agree with their plans to go to war. Bell uses humour to deliver a strong pacifist message, using his distinctive characteristic style.
