'Gustav the Busy Miller' mechanical gravity toy, with packaging.

The packaging consists of a box lid and base. Both are plain, and the lid has a white label printed in blue to show an image of the toy and the instructions in three languages: German, English and Dutch.

The toy itself consists of a flour mill; a long green metal tube with a set of ratchet slots. Spiralled inside is a length of metal and attached to it outside and to the slots by means of a cogged wheel in the chest is the miller, Gustav. He is a metal figure printed white, black and beige who climbs the pole; his arms and legs are loosely joined by tongue tabs at shoulders and hips. The top of his head is shaped into a dish which will hold the sack of flour. At the top of the pole is a yellow platform, scalloped at the top edge and with a large hole. On the platform is a cream tube with a green crimped 'roof' representing the flour mill with a cut out hole in the side, above the platform hole, which has a red hook in it. The wind up mechanism is in the mill. All parts are joined by tongue and slot.

The sails are two red double fins joined in the centre with a block which fits on the post protruding from the mill and the mechanism. Two further red double fins joined by a small cream tube in the centre into which fits and catches the base of the green pole. The flour sack weighted and painted off white with black lettering has a loop at the top.

To set up the mill, the green tube is placed into the tube of the base fins (having spread these out first); the sail fins are placed on the post of the mill and the flour sack is suspended from a red hook. The weight of the sack on the hook allows the miller to climb and turn the sails to tighten the mechanism. The miller's head collects the sack and allows the mechanism to unwind while the figure goes down.
