Object history | The Karen, a hill people, composed of distinctive groups, live mainly in south and south east Burma. Transferred from the India Museum in 1879. Slip book entry 3804: 'Kareem [?] Woman's dress / Tenasserim Martabau / 55 / Jacket Gown & a Scarf of COtton & Body Dress Skirt'. 1880 Register Entry: '05751. GOWN. Cotton, embroidered. Scarf, cotton, embroidered with long fringe. Tenasserim. 3804.' |
Production | The slip book entry lists a Karen woman's dress comprising of a jacket gown, and a scarf of cotton and body dress skirt. This is either the wrong slip book number or the scarf and skirt have been separated from the gown. Karen attribution is probably correct but it is possibly a man's shirt. |
