parchment, lined with linen, embroidered in sliver-gilt and silver thread and coloured silks and spangles. Tthere is a detachable flap to one side (1528a-1903).
The cover is oblong, with gable-shaped top. At each end is a round-headed panel, one of which opens like a door; along each side and on the flap are three circular openings beneath a long narrow one. The two ends and one side are worked with a repeating pattern of floral devices, wavy leafy stems and an edging of small rosettes. The remaining side and the two panels at each end, with the flap are all embroidered with an imbricated pattern in silver thread.
One end is lined with reddish silk and paper, the other end with parchement.
The flap 1528a fastens by hook and eyes to the top of the cover.
