This is a tumbling toy is based on a very old idea and is an interesting way of explaining the principles of gravity to children. When the figure of the tumbler is placed on the ladder, it somersaults down grasping to the rungs as it descends.

Tumbling doll with ladder made in Mexico in 1980
Physical description
The tumbler is a clothes peg shaped piece of wood rounded at the top and in an inverted V at the bottom. Into each end a slot and a circle have been cut. On the front and back a piece of paper has been pasted with a picture of a clown in black, red, yellow and pink. The ladder consists of a base and uprights of plain light wood. The base has two oblong holes to take the ladder posts. They have a slit on the inside edge into which have been slotted 7 rings of flat wood, 2 painted yellow, 2 green, 2 red and one purple.
