Object history
According to Pollet, Delaune's main source of inspiration seems to have been the illustrations of the Compost et Kalendrier des Bergers, whose first edition dated from 1491 but which was constantly republished until 1541. See Christophe Pollet, Les Gravures d'Etienne Delaune (1518-1583) (Villeneuve d'Ascq: Presses universitaires du Septentrion, 2001), vol. I, p. 284, for further discussion.
