Place of origin

Drinking vessels, like this trumpet shaped beaker, were the stock-in-trade for Scandinavian goldsmiths in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries and can be seen adorning the sideboards and tables of Scandinavian interiors in contemporary prints, drawings and paintings. The Museum's collection of Danish, Swedish and Norwegian silver consists largely of beakers and tankards, valued by collectors of traditional Scandinavian craftsmanship in Edwardian England.
