Michelangelo Jesurum, an Italian lace manufacturer, established a lace school at Pellestrina outside Venice in the 1870s. The school made lace in a range of historical and contemporary styles, and Jesurum introduced new types of lace, including in 1877 multi-coloured silk bobbin lace, like this bodice front.
Jesurum et Cie sold a wide range of products in addition to lace of their own manufacture, including needle lace made at Burano, and also performed repairs and reproduced antique lace.

Physical description | Triangular dress front and choker collar of silk bobbin lace. Made by the part-lace technique, the flowers and linking leaves and scrollwork are worked in white and half stitches. The colours being shaded across the width of the pieces. The pattern pieces are grounded with an irregular network of twisted black silk. |
