Place of origin

The bust is a small variant after a marble in the Museu Nazionale del Bargello, Florence, which probably dates to about 1544. Bronze busts of Cosimo after models by Bandinelli are known to have been cast in 1545, but this may be a later version. Bandinelli was a leading Florentine sculptor, and received several commissions from the Medici family. Cosimo I became Grand-Duke of Tuscany in 1569.
