LITERATURE Dalton Catalogue, p. 10 (under school of the Carracci)
The drawing was catalogued under the Carracci school till lately , but there is nothing in the handling to justify the attribution. The composition recalls Morazzone's oval painting of the subject in the Cappella del Rosario in S. Vittore, Varese, and a study for it in the Uffizi. The picture is illustrated in G. Nicodemi, Pier Francesco Mazzucchelli delto il Morazzolle, Varese, 1927, pl. 40; the study in R. Ciardi's article on Morazzone in Critica d'Arte, 6, pp. 145-65, pl. 77. |
