Artist/Maker
Place of origin

While the majority of painted Dutch tiles of the 18th century were of simple design, the De Bloempot factory in Rotterdam produced many with finely painted decoration. This tile provides a good example. Influenced in its style by French decorative art of the period, the tile depicts a figure performing on a 'stage' formed from an elaborate portrait medallion.
