This pearwood oval medallion is a portrait of Archbishop Tillotson (1630-1694). The archbishop is shown wearing a doctor's gown and bands. Tillotson became Archbishop of Canterbury in 1666, and this portrait may commemorate this event; it could be a reduced version of a lifesize marble portrait made at the time.

Physical description
Portrait relief in pearwood in a black frame. The Archbishop's head is slightly turned to the right, his hair is long and curling. He wears a doctor's gown and bands. There are surface cracks to the right and left of the portrait, and one just above the head. It may be a reduced version of a life-size marble.
