This finely painted tile came from a floor originally laid in a chapel of the church of Sant'Angelo in Deruta, Italy. The floor had been commissioned by the Compagnia del Rosario, who had their seat in the church. When their seat was later transferred to the church of San Francesco, the tiled floor was likewise moved.

Physical description | Tile of tin-glazed buff-coloured earthenware, in the form of an eight-pointed star, painted in blue with details in yellow, orange and green, with a figure of the youthful St. John the Baptist in the wilderness. The saint is represented seated in a mountainous landscape, with a dog at his feet and a staff resting on his shoulder. He is clad in a tunic of camel's hair with a wallet slung at his side, his legs being swathed from the knee to the ankle. |
