Better known for the production of elaborate glazed terracotta reliefs, the Della Robbia workshop also produced painted floor tiles beginning about 1468. These were typically of large, hexagonal form, and decorated with simple floral designs. This damaged example must have been cut to fit alongside a tiled border.
