Annotation, middle left: 'The monogram to be made clearer' Annotation, bottom left: 'Shading between the feet of the pelicans and the back of the demon to be cleared away. The line ascending from the back of the [illegible] to be shortened and refined as corrected here.' Annotation, middle right: 'the eagles heads on the [illegible] to be more carefully defined.' Annotation, top right: 'the capital is a design of a [illegible] feeding its young from its [illegible]. I have made this a little clearer with white which please observe.' Annotation, middle right: 'the eyebrown and lines below about the eye to be lightened.' (Annotations are in pencil and by the artist, and situated in the margins.)
