Sampler demonstrating basic stitches. Linen embroidered with pink, green and black wool. Mounted onto board. The sampler is divided into five sections by four vertical lines. Each section contains one block, sub-divided into two halves, and one circle. The general layout is symmetrical but each line and element and filling is worked in a different technique.

Production | The Royal School of Needlework. Following a Government Report which criticised the RSN for being old fashioned, certain aspects of teaching and design were modernised and this sampler is a modern version of the basic stitch sampler. |
