The first baby carrier of this type was made in 1979 by the American company Kolcraft, in response to parents' needs for an all-purpose baby seat. This particular baby carrier is also adaptable for use as a low chair, a car seat and a baby rocker, and can be slotted into a pushchair frame for additional mobility. The carrier comes with extensive instructions on its safe use in the different modes, in line with increasing concerns about child safety.
