Woodblock Print
ca. 1844-1845 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This 'uchiwa-'e (rigid fan print) design shows Mount Fuji. Hiroshige depicts the view westwards across Edo Bay from Kisarazu. This was a port on the western side of the Boso Peninsular in Chiba Prefecture. Here Hiroshige has used a wash-like simple palette of colours to make the composition more powerful. The print is unusual for its small size, square format and lack of cut-away lower section.
