This traditional wooden toy has a very simple moving mechanism. The figures are pinned to the horizontal bars. When you move the bars to and fro, the figures hit the block with their axes. The man is wearing typical Russian costume. Bears are very important animals in Russian history and folklore, and a bear often appears as a symbol of the country.

Physical description | A crudely carved and painted lever toy consisting of two figures, a man and a bear, attached to two rectangular bars. Each figure holds an orange axe. The bear is brown with white eyes and a white and pink open mouth. The man has black boots, purple trousers, a long pale blue jacket with white spots and an orange cap. There is a black block of wood attached to the top bar. The figures are pinned to the bars which can be moved to and fro resulting in the axes hitting the block in rotation. |
