This bear's name is Ted. It was given to a little girl called Muriel in about 1906. She passed the bear on to her daughter Elizabeth, who was born in 1941. Elizabeth donated the bear to the V&A. Ted is wearing a Second World War outfit made by Elizabeth's grandmother. This includes a gas mask specifically made for Ted to protect him and to help Elizabeth get used to wearing one herself. Ted also has other outfits including an American zoot suit.

Physical description
Brown mohair plush fully jointed teddy bear. The eyes are black boot button and the nose, mouth and claws stitched with black wool. There is the Steiff trademark metal button in the left ear. The accessories are two kilts, a beret, a houndstooth suit comprising jacket, trousers and hat, and a homemade gas mask
