Desert boots 1994 England C & J Clark International Ltd Suede and synthetics Given by Nicola Collings V&A: T.993:1, 2-1994 Staying Competitive (Object No. 14) Clarks has clad the feet of the British nation since 1825. Its headquarters are still in Street in Somerset, while production today takes place overseas. The ‘Desert Boot’ is perhaps the brand’s most famous silhouette. Launched in 1950, the shoe has become a design classic, and is as popular today as it has ever been.(2015)
  • Since their introduction in 1950, over 10 million pairs of Desert Boots have been sold. The design was developed from the rough crepe-soled suede boots that officers in Montgomery's English Army had made in a bazaar in Cairo. Desert Boots soon achieved cult status and are now considered an all-time classic.(1997)
