Though best known for her understated classics in navy blue and black, Jean Muir was a superb colourist and occasionally delighted in a vivid palette. The wide panels of this kimono-like cardigan allow the strong stripes to sing against each other. To achieve balance and be a counterfoil to the powerful cardigan, Jean Muir composed a base of matt black jersey vest and trousers.

British: Jean Muir, Spring/Summer 1985

The loose-fitting kimono style jacket has wide sleeves, padded shoulders and a matching tie belt. The vibrant combinations of colour are an exciting departure friom Miss Muir's more familiar restrained palette. The different directions of the stripes are achieved by using the knitting horizontally as well as vertically. The jacket, knitted throughout in fine ribbing, was made in Scotland. The Scottish knitting industry is known and respected all over the world for its production of superb quality gaements,. The jacket has received a Design Centre Award.
