A design for an overmantel in pencil, pen and ink on paper. The overmantel is rococo in form with chinoiserie-inspired features. The overmantel is composed from curved foliate ornamentation such as rocaille, acanthus leaves and flowers. Shelves have been incorporated into the design, on top of which porcelain object have been drawn in red ink. The frame is surmounted by a large porcelain vase below which, on another shelf, is a chinoiserie figure. Underneath the frame, the outline of a fireplace has been drawn. To the left of the frame is a wall bracket drawn in pen and ink and grey wash. The bracket is composed from carving in the shape of ribbon which takes the shape of a bow at the top and is interspersed with floral arrangements before terminating at the bottom with a shelf.
