Representation of the Buddha as a monk seated with legs interlocked in the padmasana position with the right hand touching the earth in bhumisparsa (witness position) upon a double lotus throne. The left hand rests upturned in his lap holding a myrobolan (medicinal fruit). The hair is not articulated in curls but is smooth and is separated from his forehead by a narrow raised headband. The mendicants robe, indicated by little more than its terminating edges, is decorated down the front and leaves the right shoulder and arm bare.

Brief description
Burmese Buddha in monastic robes, seated in bhumisparsa padmasana mudra on a double lotus base whilst his left hand holds a myrobolan. Konbaung Dynasty (1752-1885). Carved wood with incise work covered in thitsi lacquer. ca. first quarter of the 19th century.
