The Buddha is seated in the "earth"-touching or witness bhumisparsa mudra pose, with the right hand, palm inwards, touching the double lotus base upon which he sits, whilst the left hand rests in the lap in the dhyana (meditating) pose. The legs are folded in the adamantine pose. The details of the robe and features are incised. The head is conical shaped, and is surmounted by a cone (? of flame).

Production
There is nothing in the RP's revealing how the donor, Mr. Gunn, acquired this sculpture, said to have come from Northern Burma. However, in 1932 he offered a Burmese silk textile (which was not accepted) but which he writes he bought in Mandalay 20 years ago.
