Artist/Maker
Place of origin

The easiest way to travel up the Bosphourus from Istanbul and visit the villages on the European and Asian shores, was to hire a boat. The sturdy boatmen, or kayikci, were usually Greek, and were skilled rowers. They had to be, because of the rapid currents and the frail nature of their craft, which were easily capsized.
