Transferred from the India Museum in 1879. 1880 Register Entry: [Room No. 7- continued. Base of Case 36.] '01,843. IDOL. Brass, representing Vasudeo Krishna. Hooblee, Dharwar. 6,862'. The India Museum Slip Book entry number 6,862 adds that this 'Brass cup containing an idol' was acquired in 1867, so the object was probably purchased for the Paris Universal Exhibition of that year and made in the 1860s. the book notes that'When this cup is filled to the brim with water, all the contents immediately disappear through a concealed syphon'.
Another object of this type in the V&A's collection bears the number IS.651-1883.
