This set of eleven progressive proofs show the order of application of six colours in a sequence. The lithographer or artist would have worked out the separation of colours by eye. A separate stone was made for each colour. The original design for this poster is also in the collection: Museum number E.3183-1920.
American Edward McKnight Kauffer (1890-1954) was one of the most influential poster designers working in Britain. He designed a large number of posters for London Transport in the 1920s.
