Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Painting, opaque watercolour, letraset transfer and collage on wasli (paper), in the miniature painting format, depicting a rocket covered with delicate green foliage. This is set against a backdrop of English and Urdu newspaper text. The painting is presented in its own box (IS.7:2-2003).

The rocket is a recurring symbol in his work and represents various current political events in the world arena, most notably the nuclear arms race between India and Pakistan, and the bombing of the twin towers in New York on September 11, 2001. The foliage acts as a kind of camouflage, the delicacy with which the leaves are rendered expresses a certain sensitivity to the subject matter and allows the artist to prove his painterly skill.
