Detail of the northern gateway 'torana' of the Buddhist stupa at Sanchi. Each of the four torana's are carved with scenes from the Jatakas, tales which represent Budhha's life. The Sanchi stupa dates back to the third century as is recognised as one of the oldest surviving Buddhist monuments.
