| Object history | This design contains decorative elements of classical inspiration that Jean Jacques Boileau often combines in designs for silver. Ovoid body supported by four female terminal figures on a stand supported by lions’ paw feet. The plateau decorated with putti and acanthus scrolls. This and the other drawings by J. J. Boileau and his school were probably in the collection of A. C. Pugin and sold at Mr Wheatley’s rooms,4th June 1843, lot 469, Boileau’s (J.) “Series of drawings appropriated to the gold and silversmiths”, bought by Williams for 3 shillings. Designs number 8388.1 and 8388.2 are a set of drawings and in the same manner and in the same scale for wine coolers, probably intended as alternatives. Bought from Robert Jackson 24th May 18?? For one pound with seven others. |
