Object history | Very similar feet appear on a hot water tea urn designed by Boileau, marked Digby Scott and Benjamy Smith 1805-6 (Snodin p. 124). The shape of the lid might suggest a very liquid content that is prone to evaporation. The body presents some suggested modifications in pencil. This design contains decorative elements of classical inspiration that Jean Jacques Boileau often combines in designs for silver. This and the other drawings by J. J. Boileau and his school were probably in the collection of A. C. Pugin and sold at Mr Wheatley’s rooms,4th June 1843, lot 469, Boileau’s (J.) “Series of drawings appropriated to the gold and silversmiths”, bought by Williams for 3 shillings. |
