Place of origin |
This print is by the fashion designer Hussein Chalayan. It shows a simply drawn image of a woman, possibly a bride, wearing a long dress and a veil. It is more than a fashion image, and has a fragile quality, as if drawn from a distant memory. At first glance, it looks like a bride, but at a closer look it reveals something more; she stares out unhappily, or even disturbingly. Her uncomfortably held hands add to the underlying anxiety, or hysteria.
This etching is included in a limited-edition box set of prints and photographs, published by SHOWstudio in 2001. The set consists of a range of works by a variety of people from the creative industries, from photographers to pop stars, and the works – a collection of art, artefacts and fashion ephemera – are exclusive to this set. The mix of media and creative practitioners involved in this portfolio reflects the interests of the SHOWstudio project, concerned with contemporary image-making, fashion and multimedia. It could be described as a time capsule or a modern archive.
